it is Currently the brand's original best-selling of the Volkswagen Group, the biggest German automaker and the third largest manufacturer worldwide. Its headquarters is located in Wolfsburg, Germany. The group is cosntituido for twelve brands from seven european countries: Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Porsche, Ducati, MAN SE, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Scania AB.

The brand sells its vehicles in over 153 countries, it operates 61 production plants located in 15 european countries and in more than 6 countries from America, Asia and Africa.

In the year 2012 received the award for Equality and Reconciliation in the category Large Enterprise.

The name came at the beginning of the 30's, when Adolf Hitler launched a contest for the manufacture of a car for the people (Volks Wagen). Although the original name of the model was another, used the name Volkswagen to refer to the “Beetle” or “Bettle”, the first model produced by the brand. After the layoff in the production by the war conflicts, on the 27th of December, began the series production of the beetle.

In 1978 this model was discontinued in Germany, mainly due to that in the world market had appeared automobile equivalent of design and technology more advanced. During the end of the last century, the Volkswagen Sedan (beetle) was considered "the car of the century".
